Michael
Sagmeister was born in Frankfurt in 1959. His musical roots
are Bebop and Hardbop, early influences had been John Coltrane,
Charlie Parker, Pat Martino and Wes Montgomery. His playing is a
mixture of Neobop, Fusion and Blues.
In the early 80‘s he toured as the opening act of the „United Jazz and
Rock Ensemble“, which immideately led to fame. He then toured
Southeast Asia, Northern and Western Africa. Playing many
international Festivals, he now is well known in the international
jazz scene.
He performed and recorded with Billy Cobham, Larry Coryell, Jack
DeJohnette, Lyle Mays, Dave Samuels, Albert Mangelsdorff, Wolfgang
Dauner, Charlie Mariano, Randy Brecker, Volker Kriegel, Attila Zoller,
Miroslav Vitous, Emily Remler, Gerry Brown and Pat Martino.
Next to teaching numerous Jazz-Workshops he is working as a Professor
at the Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst in Frankfurt. In
1999 his textbook „Sagmeisters Jazzgitarre“ was released and is a
bestseller since.
